The High Atlas chain of mountains of Morocco is nearly 800 miles long, nearly eight peaks reach or exceed 4000 meters hight.
The Ait Ouzirimts are Berbers who have settled in the M'goun valley, in the High Atlas mountains about 3 centuries ago. Their valley is located between the Tizi Ait Imi pass, Bouguemez north side, and the pass of Imi Nirkt and Tizi Aït Ahmed on the south overlooking the touristic "Valley of Roses".
Surrounded by summits rising to over 3 500 meters, their valley is completely isolated and inaccessible during the six months of winter. There is no road to reach the 14 villages built on the slopes of the valley for about 2,500 inhabitants.
Along the scenes filmed during winter 2010, the snow covers the landscape. Isolation becomes even more prevalent, life takes place mostly inside the cob houses around braziers, because it is extremely cold.
No doctor, no clinic, no school, no road, no shop, no medicines, no electricity or running water.
